It is <em>the story of those on the inside of this movement, attempting to uncover what draws Americans \u2014 the ideologues, the disenfranchised, and the dangerously quixotic \u2014 to the edge of revolution.&nbsp;<\/em><br><br>Coarse observations: <br>- Aamon Bundy and several other activists occupying Malheur are compelling, intelligent and sympathetic characters. The film made little attempt to starkly contrast their self-perceptions with other local stakeholder's perspectives<br>- Prayer is embodied in the vein of \"soldiers\" doing God's work. <br>- Gender roles are distinct and stereotypical (for the most part)<br>- After the trial, a Black interviewee stated: Bundy asserted that the USA is a white utopia. And the jury agreed...<br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Add'l resource: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/blog\/takeovers-and-occupations-a-survey-of-american-mini-rebellions-and-political-stands\/\">a brief survey of US mini-rebellions and political stands<\/a> with a notable section on the double-standards in the land-use war between Bundy's militia and the indigenous Paiute community in Burns, for whom Malheur is part of their sacred tribal lands:<br><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:more -->\n<!--more-->\n<!-- \/wp:more -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><br><em>Aside from seeing what they perceived to be a double standard when it comes to political and judicial repercussions from the standoff, Native Americans also paid attention to how their own priceless relics (an estimated\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bendbulletin.com\/localstate\/environment\/3913963-151\/4000-artifacts-stored-at-malheur-refuge\" target=\"_blank\">4,000 Paiute tribal artifacts<\/a>\u00a0are kept at the refuge) were treated\u2013and scorned at, as seen in\u00a0No Man\u2019s Land\u2013by the Malheur protesters, even more so given how\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/codeswitch\/2016\/11\/22\/502068751\/the-standing-rock-resistance-is-unprecedented-it-s-also-centuries-old\" target=\"_blank\">Native American activists<\/a>\u00a0(and supporters)\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2016\/nov\/21\/standing-rock-protest-hundreds-clash-with-police-over-dakota-access-pipeline\" target=\"_blank\">protesting the proposed pipeline at Standing Rock<\/a>\u00a0were subsequently treated in comparison.<\/em><br><em>(Long before it became a refuge in 1908, the Malheur was the traditional winter gathering area for Kennedy\u2019s people.
