Too much to process.<br \/>\nI was in heaven today walking along the Gila. Yes I was close to a campground and road. But no I didn&#8217;t care. Maybe one car drove by. And why is that the defining factor anyway? The defining factors: a pair of hawks&#8217; high pitched tiffs, chasing each other in and out of the rock face. The willows&#8217; chesty breath\u00a0 in the wind. Minnows. Cool water and a rocky bottom. Dazzle of sun. Green, green grasses and I counted at least 25 species of plants, many in flower. This is, as it turns out, good <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Riparian_zone\" target=\"_blank\">riparian<\/a>. You can see willows on the left bank, and many varied grasses. But there is another area along the Gila with dense riparian &#8211; trees, brush, grasses, so thick you can&#8217;t see through it. Is that super healthy?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22155573@N00\/7182318675\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7242\/7182318675_296fb0fab1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On highway 12 from Reserve to Aragon, I passed the Tularosa River that I (two weeks ago) would have thought picturesque:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22155573@N00\/7373764796\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5111\/7373764796_3eea602d77.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But in a flood, there&#8217;s nothing to hold debris back or silt from collecting in it.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s most likely been overgrazed with little rest to allow the natural riparian to return.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22155573@N00\/7367547144\/in\/photostream\/lightbox\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7235\/7367547144_aa0e085a3d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/22155573@N00\/7367599416\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" id=\"yui_3_5_0_3_1339561534299_277\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7082\/7182362171_591d5969e0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSuper volcanoes! 30 million years ago.
